About Fiesta
Folklorica Puertorriqueña: The "Fiesta Folklórica Puertorriqueña" Festival is one of
the largest and longest running Puerto Rican cultural events in New York City, second only to the National
Puerto Rican Day Parade. This day-long annual summer event focuses on the preservation, promotion and cultural education of
Latino musical and artistic folklore. . Every year, Fiesta, Inc., a 501c3 organization, develops
an energetic program, presenting a series open-air staged performances that is FREE to the public, conducting cultural educational
activities, and exhibitions, throughout the day. A summer tradition that has continued for decades at the popular Central
Park venue of Rumsey Field. The festival is made up of several components, allowing for a diverse and all inclusive program
which includes: Entertainment: Up to ten performances are presented during the day long event.
From the traditional to the most contemporary, every entertainer is presented by a famous MC., who opens and closes the event
from the famous Rumsey Playfield stage. Artisans: Fiesta has had a long running relationship with local artisans who
keep and nurture the arts by creating uniquely typical folk, and modern art, displaying and selling their work at the festival. Food Concessions:
On a hot summer day, who wouldn’t want a nice cold drink at the festival. The festival has numerous food concession
stands line up around Rumsey field, offering the more popular Latino cuisine. Souvenir Stands:
People love their souvenirs, from key chains to gold chains, Fiesta has a stand for everything Puerto Rican. Recognition Awards:
Every year “Fiesta” honors several individuals who are exemplary in their field of work, pillars of the community
and/or sources of Puerto Rican pride. Other Activities: There are several other activities event goers look forward to when they
come to the park, these activities vary from raffles and contests sponsored by local businesses, to workshop presentations
hosted by artisans and non-profit organizations geared towards educating youth about culture through art, music and history.
La "Fiesta's" Website Committee is currently looking through thousands of photographs, programs,
announcements, magazine/newspaper articles and clippings spanning over 40 years in service of its community.
